Incident and Accident Reporting
The Ramblers take legal responsibility for all activities formally organised by Groups and Areas and holds liability insurance to cover incidents and accidents.
A walk leader must complete an Incident Form for any incidents that are of concern but, specifically, whenever emergency services have been involved, medical assistance has been sought, third party property has been damaged, or there’s been a near miss - an incident may not necessarily involve personal harm or injury.
Examples of incidents include a walk where someone has been injured falling off a stile, or tripped on a pavement, damage to property following a gate being left open or someone dropping a large stone on their foot whilst undertaking practical work. If in doubt, please report it.

It is recommended that Leaders carry a copy of the Incident Form when leading a walk so that they can produce a draft report to complete and email later.

Walk Leader Training
There are a number of on-line training courses for Walk Leaders and potential new leaders available on the Ramblers website. These courses were introduced in May 2024 and new Walk Leaders must complete them before leading walks. They are accessed from the Ramblers website so you need a Ramblers account to complete the training. This is because the training can be done in small chunks and the course records where you have got to and ultimately when you have completed the training.
You can create an account by accessing the Ramblers website www.ramblers.org.uk , scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the tile 'Create a My Ramblers account.

2) Preventing and Managing Incidents (60 min on line course)

From time to time (at least once a year) one day leaders course are run by a group with Surrey Area and sometimes by Kingston ramblers. Details will be posted on this website and in Kingston Rambler Newsletters.
