Margaret Loveless (1917-1993)  Grove of Trees memorial located at Grid Ref: TQ199653

Founder and Committee member (1965 - 1993) and Footpath Secretary (1990s) 

Margaret Loveless was a founder member of the Kingston Ramblers and served on the Kingston Ramblers Committee for 29 years and as a Footpath secretary during the 1990s.  She was keen to keep footpaths recorded on their original route even when there might be an improved alternative option available.  She had led over 300 walks for the group.

On March 6th 1994 the Kingston group members turned out to plant a grove of trees in the fields of Tolworth Court Farm in memory of one of their founder members, Margaret Loveless. Margaret was knocked from her bicycle and killed in a tragic road accident in February 1993.  

The Lower Mole Project was consulted on a suitable memorial for Margaret and suggested this grove, now planted mainly with oak, plus some field maple, hazel and dog rose. This is part of their landscaping work on the farm, an area of Metropolitan Open Land by the Hogsmill stream, owned by Kingston Borough.

In the photo below, group treasurer Gordon Prince levels up the commemorative tablet, assisted by Linda Hargrave (nee Southgate). The tablet was formally unveiled the following Sunday by Kingston Group President, Tony Parker.
