Ramblers Roadshow Event, Sandown Saturday 13th May 2017

This is a national event involving more than 300 Ramblers members.  Learn more about the Ramblers, what we do as a charity and the impact that we make, as well as the chance to develop your skills and knowledge as a walker or as a volunteer.

We will also need volunteers to help staff the event:-

·         Stewarding in the car park from about 08:30 to 09:30.

·         Helping to staff the reception desk.

·         Stewarding within the building to help people find the right rooms

Evening Walk Thursday 4th May 2017

An additional evening walk through the Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park. Starting Kingston station 18:00. For full details click HERE 

 

 

Social Evening

A social evening is planned after Easter, date and venue to be confirmed. Those interested should email Maureen Munday so she can estimate numbers. If you can also tell her if you would like to return to The Watchman in New Malden (as last time) or would prefer somewhere different

 

 

John Hauxwell Memorial Gate

We have now collected enough funds to cover the cost of a memorial kissing gate. We await communications from Surrey County Council on a prospective location.

 

 

Thursday Walks Day

For the July – October 2017 programme we have opened up a Thursday walks day for a mixture of short, medium and evening walks.

 

Walk Leadership

The Programme for July – October 2017 is now being compiled. Can all leaders check the available days including the new Thursday programme and book with Moira Shearer. The available dates can be found HERE

 

For those who want to take up leading walks or even thinking about it, a one day training course is run by the Surrey Area of the Ramblers. The courses cover basic map reading and walk leading, are free and take place on Saturdays the next dates being the 20th May (few places available) and 19 August. Footpath Officer for Elmbridge

The Kingston Ramblers ‘patch’ covers The Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and a large part of Elmbridge Borough. David Cooper is the Footpath Officer for the Kingston part and Rodney Whittaker for the Elmbridge part. Rodney is also Area Footpath secretary for Surrey and wants to spend more time doing that job. Transport

A major upgrade to Waterloo station is to take place between 5th and 28th August 2017. There will be a substantial curtailment in rail services on SOUTH WEST train lines during this period. For details and links to train operators web site see HERE

 

The 465 bus service (Kingston, Leatherhead, Dorking) has been guaranteed for five years by Surrey County Council after it was originally included in a list of services to be axed.
